…Uhhhhh…ummmmm…I don’t really know if there’s a safe way to go about this review. You see, my job right now is to give you my opinion of this game and while giving my opinions I need to provide sufficient evidence to back up my opinions, and in my opinion this game doesn’t let me do that…

I should probably back up that opinion.

You see, “The Stanley Parable” is an interactive narrative experience that invites the gamer to introspect and contemplate upon their role as a gamer, not just in the context of the game, but in the context of real life. Just to illustrate this opinion within an opinion, I’ll JUST tell you who the main character is. It’s a man named Stanley.

OMFG! SPOILERFAG!

Stanley is a man who works in an office, and his job is to sit in front of a computer and push specific buttons depending on what a voice from the speakers tells him to push. Remind you of anyone yet?

The game doesn’t stop there. But seeing as I feel I’ve already said too much I’ll end my review here.

…Also there’s a funny British man who plays the narrator!

All right I’ll control myself.

No, really. I can control myself enough not to tell you that the game has multiple endings, each one distinct from the other, numbering at a fair-

Moving on…

The Stanley Parable is a video game that redefines the term “interactive experience”, but not in the conventional Heavy Rain/Indigo Prophecy/Dear Esther style of taking you on the equivalent of a very slow roller coaster ride with no rises and falls – but for some strange reason, an upside-down section. No, it’s a game that invites you to introspect and that is what makes this game great. Which is also the reason why my role as the reviewer is useless, because EVERYONE who plays through The Stanley Parable ends up reviewing it, either passively or actively.

Seeing as I’m an ardent supporter of the independent game-development company, I am compelled to keep the pirates at bay, and I urge you guys to give your money to the men who made this game. Seriously, it’s going to a good cause.

‘Till next time.
