There has always been a debate about the pricing policy of concert tickets. The exorbitant prices charged by well-known artists have forced some people to turn into critics of concerts.
These shows have their vibe, with thousands of people singing, dancing and sharing the same feelings during a performance. However, most of them bear the brunt of the ethical consequences of high ticket prices. More often than not, people succumb to peer pressure and purchase costly passes.
Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh faced criticism for the same reason. The steep prices, ranging from Rs 1,400 to Rs 20,000, for his upcoming 10-city tour ignited mixed responses.
A comedian and influencer, Saumya Sahni, posted a video ‘15k for a concert? In this country? In this economy?’, saying, “Your core audience has no money or employment.”
While some others believe that it is completely up to the artist to charge whatever amount they wish to.
The same thing happened with the tickets for the Coldplay concert in India, scheduled from January 19 to 21, 2025. Fans complained of the tickets getting sold within minutes of coming live, and the excessive charges they were asked to pay after waiting in long queues for the tickets.
Here, we ask Gen Z their opinion on such practices and whether they would pay exorbitant prices to watch their favourite artist perform.
