ED VoxPop is where we ask people different survey questions and get responses to conduct sort of a poll of our own.
The “India vs Bharat” issue began soon after the newly formed Opposition alliance announced the name “Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance” or “I.N.D.I.A.”. The ruling government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, called it out for doing politics over the nation’s name.
The Indian government stated that a political party should not have a name similar to that of the country’s name. However, when the alliance, comprising of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, among others, refused to change the name, the ruling party started using the term “Bharat” to represent the nation.
Widely used in other Indian linguistics, the term “Bharat” started appearing more often and used extensively by PM Modi, his ministers, and members of his NDA Alliance. In fact, the name “Bharat” was also used in the ASEAN Summit in Indonesia and G20 Summit in Delhi, hinting that the government might officially change the nation’s name to “Bharat”.
Regarding the same, we asked genZ’s take on the “Bharat vs India” issue. Let’s have a look at their responses.
