Jibin George set a new world record for the smallest artwork painting on a stone on November 27, 2020 from Texas, painting a tiger on a stone that is just 7 x 8 mm. The Texas-based artist painted the image in 30 minutes using acrylic colors, smashing the previous record of 1.5 x 0.8 cm.
- The tiny painting, captured on the International Book of Records’ YouTube video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woi2Fo3WP-s, pays homage to George’s homeland of India. The magnificent tiger, with its grace, strength, and agility, is a source of pride for India as the national animal, and George’s native state of Kerala hosts the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, which has the largest population of the endangered species in the country.
A self-taught artist, George uses art to connect people with causes, evoking a response through imagery. “Every time we see beautiful art it awakens the creativity and beauty inside all of us. Great artwork can make people stop, if even for a moment, and have an emotional and inspiring experience. The amazing thing is that these emotions are re-lived every time we see that artwork.”
To advance the cause of wildlife conservation, George acted as the reviewer for the international juried art exhibition contest “The Endangered: Can Art Save Them?” The virtual gallery of art, hosted by Art Impact® International (https://www.artimpactinternational.org/the-endangered), will be online from November 7, 2020-January 8, 2021, with multimedia presentations on YouTube. Featuring more than 127 artists from over 20 countries, the exhibit helps to raise awareness, provoke empathy, and motivate actions, George noted. “Beautiful art is the best way to draw attention to today’s threats because it connects with people on an emotional level,” he said.
Realizing that many artists around the world go unknown, even after creating great artworks, George seeks to help emerging artists find global recognition. George introduced Art for Good Cause to spotlight the work of talented emerging artists worldwide, while using creativity and art to create global social impact. Art for Good Cause (https://artforgoodcause.com/global-warming) featured global art competitions in 2019 and early 2020 to protect children from tobacco, which was based on the World Health Organization anti-tobacco initiative and raise awareness of global warming. “Art is the expression of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture,” George said. “The word ‘art’ may be just a word to us, for the artists, it is a way of life.”
George has painted over 400 portraits and held multiple exhibitions and workshops in the United States and India to promote art. He has reviewed artworks received in global art competitions and has been juried in many art competitions. He is the author of the books, “Portrait Drawing in Graphite Made Easy,” (2018) and “Let Us Learn Figure Drawing: Essential Handbook” (2020), available on Amazon at www.amazon.com/author/jibingeorge.
