After the massive expose by The Tribune of the deficiencies in the highly porous Aadhaar database, the authorities finally woke up.
First, in a classic ‘sarkaari’ knee-jerk reaction, the UIDAI sued the journalist who broke the story which earned them a lot of wrath from all corners. But their second move was a bit better.

They have introduced a program called the Virtual ID program wherein the ID can be used as a proxy for your actual Aadhaar number.
