Harry

Get out your wands and brooms, people…Harry Potter is BACK!!!! And this time its not as his usual Hogwarts-student-on- a mission-style, but as a 34 year old successful auror. JK Rowling has written a 1500 word article, one of the part of a series dedicated to the Quidditch World Cup 2014 (Riding on the excitement of the FIFA World Cup, are we Ms. Rowling?), on her website Pottermore. The post chronicles ‘Harry and gang’s life post Hogwarts and mentions the latest buzz that’s on, in the land that lies across Platform 9 3/4 King’s Cross Station.

The article is written in the format of a gossip column for the Daily Prophet from the point of view of Rita Skeeter (I’m sure she’ll turn 85 and still run around, looking for new gossip for the Daily Prophet) and mentions that Harry now posseses a ‘thread of silver’ in his jet black hair (yeah, he’s growing old, but we love him nonetheless ☺) and a mysterious scar which Rita reckons is a result of his work as an auror. Ron has quit the Ministry of Magic and is co-managing the ever-successful joke shop, Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes. His ginger hair, a Weasley family heirloom, is now thinning. The last 2 sentences prove that it doesn’t matter if you’ve risked your life and battled countless death eaters and one full-fledged Voldemort, old age always gets you! :P Hermione, the last in the I-shall-save-the-day-at-Hogwarts trio, is now a successful working woman. She is the Deputy Head at the Ministry of Magical Law enforcement and is “now tipped to go even higher within the Ministry”, highlighting the caliber she always possessed. Ginny is a reporter and is seen covering the Quidditch World Cup Finals 2014 final between Brazil and Bulgaria (we wonder whether Viktor Krum is still somewhere around), which all four of them ie. Harry, Ron, Hermione and Ginny are attending . Other characters such as Luna Lovegood and Neville Longbottom who were an essential part of Dumbledore’s Army, are now in a sweet and sound spot, enjoying their lives to the fullest.

This small effort by JK Rowling brings great joy to all of us, Potterheads, who’ve virtually grown up on Harry Potter, idolized him, got tensed up at the smallest of problems faced by him, celebrated his every victory and of course, have been hopping up and down like the chocolate frog waiting for some new update on ‘The Boy Who Lived’.
