You Can Now Get A Maruti Car The Same Way You Get To Watch Netflix

Maruti Car subscription

Getting a subscription to a magazine or an OTT service like Netflix or Amazon Prime is nothing new.

These are things whose very model is built on people subscribing and using their services on a semi-permanent method. As long as you’re using the thing, you can pay a subscription fee and do with it what you want, when you no longer require it, you can stop the payments.

However, who would have ever thought that you can now get a car in the same way you get Netflix or Amazon Prime?

Apparently, you can now get a Maruti car the same way you get to watch movies and shows on Netflix. With a subscription.

Maruti Suzuki had announced this subscription plan back in September and has now even extended it to four more cities across India.

What Is This Maruti Subscribe-A-New-Car Program?

Much has been about the current millennial generation not being a big fan of buying cars.

Our very own Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, had even said last year that the obvious decline in car sales was because millennials are not buying cars and instead opting to use services like Ola and Uber.

It seems in order to get around the reluctance shown by millennials in outright buying a car, Maruti Suzuki came up with an alternative.

As per reports, Maruti, in collaboration with ORIX Auto Infrastructure Services India, had started to offer its subscription plans initially in Delhi-NCR and Bengaluru.

The cars available to be chosen on a subscription basis are available from Maruti and Nexa, that include:

  • New Swift
  • Dzire
  • Vitara Brezza
  • Ertiga
  • Baleno
  • Ciaz and
  • XL6

Their plans can go anywhere between 12 months and 48 months based on which car is selected by the customer.

According to reports, a Swift LXi for 48 months of the subscription in Delhi will have a monthly fee starting from Rs. 14,463 including the taxes.

The fees will also include things like 24×7 roadside assistance, maintenance and zero-dep insurance.

The customer, after their subscription period ends, can choose anything from,

  • fully buying the car at market price,
  • extend their current subscription,
  • upgrade their vehicle or even
  • end the subscription entirely

Apparently, this seems to have prompted other car manufacturers to also try out this method. Reports reveal that Tata Motors also launched their own subscription plan for their Nexon EV car and Hyundai had actually released their own subscription-based models sometime last year itself.

Even some foreign car brands like Volkswagen and MG Motor India have cars available on such kind of a lease.

The response to this plan has been pretty positive as per Maruti Suzuki who has received over 6,000 customer queries about this plan.

To this extent, they have even launched this plan in four new cities, namely Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.
