Why Is Shraddha Kapoor’s Jewellery Brand Being Seen As A Fraud?

-

Shraddha Kapoor’s jewellery brand, Palmonas, has recently gained attention once again, thanks to its pitch on Shark Tank India Season 4, though not necessarily for positive reasons. Co-founders Pallavi Mohadikar and Amol Patwari sought funding of ₹1.26 crore for 1% equity during their presentation, and they were successful in obtaining the funding. However, they faced questions regarding their lifetime warranty, which some found misleading to customers.

Sharks Vineeta Singh and Kunal Bahl both raised concerns about the warranty concept. The co-founders explained, “Of course, it’s a depreciating asset, but if you return the product within the first six months, we offer 50% of the order value. After 6 to 12 months, we provide 25% of the purchase value, and thereafter, we offer 15% of the purchase value as store credit for a lifetime.”

Kunal responded, “But this is not a lifetime warranty,” while Vineeta expressed stronger concern, “When customers realise they have been misled by the promise of a lifetime warranty, it will impact the brand. If I buy something worth ₹3,000 and receive a ₹450 gift voucher in return, it holds no real value. There’s nothing in your store worth ₹450.”

This isn’t the first time Palmonas has faced scrutiny, with previous accusations including plagiarism, poor customer service, and other issues.

What Is This Brand And How Is Shraddha Kapoor Involved?

Palmonas is a demi-fine jewellery brand founded in 2022 by Pallavi Mohadikar and Amol Patwari. Demi-fine jewellery occupies a space between cheap imitation and high-end jewellery, targeted toward the masses as being good quality without being heavy on the pocket.

The jewellery is reportedly made from surgical-grade stainless steel and plated with 18k gold vermeil (an alloy of sterling silver and gold), set with semi-precious stones. Most of their products cost between Rs. 1,500 and Rs. 30,000 or more. Bollywood actress Shraddha Kapoor owns a 21% stake in the company and, although she joined later, she was given the title of co-founder.

Pallavi explained how she came onboard in Shark Tank India, saying, “It’s a very interesting story. I was scrolling through Instagram one day and noticed that Shraddha was wearing a Palmonas piece. A fan commented about her necklace, and she replied, saying she had bought five more because she liked it so much. I went back and checked my orders and found a customer named S Kapoor. She had been buying from us, and we didn’t realise it! We made a reel saying ‘Shraddha wears Palmonas’ and hoped that it would reach her. It did. I was eight and a half months pregnant when I went to Mumbai and met her. And things worked out.”

Is This A Fraud Brand?

In January this year, reports emerged in which social media users accused the brand of selling bootleg styles plagiarised from luxury brands like Cartier and others. A Reddit thread on r/BollyBlindsNGossip on 6 January 2025 caught the attention of many when it stated, “Shraddha’s jewellery brand is just copying designs of Cartier and other luxury brands and selling their bootleg versions.

The post further published photos of products from Palmonas and Cartier, showing the similarity in designs, such as the Trinity Ring, which appears similar to Cartier’s Trinity Ring, featuring three interlinked bands of gold, silver, and rose gold.

They also posted how Palmonas’ ‘Gilded Rings Layered Necklace’ looks quite similar to Bvlgari’s B.zero1 Necklace.

When one person asked whether anyone had purchased from this brand and about its quality, one user replied, “I saw in an influencer’s post that the quality is very poor, but this was back when they just launched,” while another replied, “Trash, it didn’t even last four days.”

A recent video by the YouTube channel ‘The Spill Bee’ titled ‘SHRADDHA KAPOOR’S BRAND IS BAD: PALMONAS IGNORING CUSTOMERS & NOT DELIVERING JEWELLERY’ also examined the brand’s customer service, highlighting issues such as long delivery times, damaged products, lack of response from the team, and sudden order cancellations.

The video’s creator posted an update: “I wanted to inform you all that Palmonas co-founder Mr Amol has reached out, and they have taken certain steps to resolve the pending issues quickly. Please reach out to them via email, even if it is regarding an old issue. It’s great that they acknowledged the problem and have taken the feedback positively; as an audience, we should appreciate this move.”

This is not a singular issue, though. Such customer complaints can be found on X/Twitter, Reddit, and other social media platforms.

X/Twitter user @sunsaathiyax posted in April 2024, “She is promoting Palmonas.. don’t ever go for it, people. This brand is total rubbish. Only the designs are pretty; everything else, from cost to customer service, is just the worst. Instead, you can purchase aesthetically pleasing accessories from local shops, to be honest.”

The issue with customer service might be this company’s biggest problem, and it should be rectified as soon as possible. Poor customer service is a surefire way to lose customers and their trust.
