Greta Thunberg, the Swedish environmental activist crash-landed into the mainstream news with her passionate and understandably angry speech at the 2019 UN Climate Action Summit.

At the tender age of 16, she stood in front of some of the most powerful and important leaders of the world and asked them “how dare you” when it came to climate change.

Thunberg had been working on the issue of climate change for longer than that though, starting from 2018 when she started the ‘school strike for climate‘ as an attempt to get authorities to give more attention to climate change.

This eventually led to the strike becoming a global phenomenon with students from various regions also doing the school climate strike.

Even for the 2019 climate summit, she sailed to North America instead of taking a flight there, being conscious of the harmful impact airlines have on the environment.

However, since the world descended into the chaos of the coronavirus pandemic, climate change and such issues have been pushed to the side.

And so, one has to ask where is Greta Thunberg during this COVID-19 pandemic and what has she been doing?

Turns out she has not just been sitting at home and making dalgona coffees but has been doing some small things from her side.

1. Thunberg Donated $100,000 To COVID-19 Affected People

In April, news came out that Greta Thunberg had donated the $100,000 prize that she had won from a Danish Foundation to United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

This donation would be used by UNICEF to support children who have been affected by the coronavirus lockdown and closure of schools.

2. Announced Support For Indian Students Against NEET Exams

In a tweet, Thunberg also showed support towards Indian students who are protesting against the holding of the JEE & NEET exams.

3. Donated Funds To Amazon Rainforest To Help Fight COVID-19

Thunberg also stated that she would be donating 100,000 euros to the Amazon rainforest to help them fight the spread of COVID-19.

She stated through Twitter that she will be sending the funds to SOS Amazonia which is a campaign led by Fridays For Future Brazil.

The Amazon region of Brazil has had more than 280 indigenous people die because of the disease with hospitals also being underfunded.

Couple these issues with the fact that access to remote areas is difficult, her donation could help the region slightly.

Greta Thunberg has been doing some things but has mostly kept an online presence due to the fact that offline events are highly discouraged right now.
