Thailand’s ladyboys, known as kathoeys, has been a flourishing community that welcomes trans people who have been ostracized in the state.

Ladyboys, loosely translated as men choosing to have a feminine appearance, have had their tussles when they were forced to do jobs in the grisly red-light districts without the opportunity to choose a career of their choice.

But since 2007, there have been reforms in Thailand through the Gender Equality Act with the capital becoming tolerant towards the LGBT community here.
