The results of the Lok Sabha elections, announced early morning on June 5, extended Narendra Modi’s decade-long leadership by securing him a historic win for a third time as India’s Prime Minister (PM).
Although the President of India is the Head of the Executive, it is the Prime Minister who holds the real power. This important candidate, which is the PM, is elected by the Members of Parliament. Out of 545 seats in the Lok Sabha, a party that wins a majority of seats, that is, more than 272, chooses its leader to be the PM.
However, since the BJP party failed to secure the majority of votes, it will have to form a coalition government with its allies.

Exit polls had predicted a third term for Modi in the elections, which began on April 19 and ended on June 1. This adds him to the list of India’s longest-serving Prime Ministers.
