Using Tech to Build Consumer Trust in Point-of-Sale Retail Transactions Post COVID-19

A renewed commitment to hand washing and increased use of hand sanitizer does not unfortunately eliminate all risk of surface to surface contact and the spread of germs. Cash and credit card point-of-sale purchases are one example of how the risk of spreading COVID-19 has impacted retailers and restaurants across the country, as consumers weigh the risks and change their buying behaviors.

Florida-based startup CleanCash by SaniCash is hoping to make commerce safe again with the use of ultraviolet-C light energy to clean both cash and credit card terminals. Using its new retail technology to help keep consumers and employees safe, the company hopes to help restore confidence in point-of-sale transactions and protect the retail economy from the impacts we’ve seen this year due to COVID-19.

“The idea for CleanCash began when a friend approached me early in the pandemic,” said Mark Lyle, the company’s founder. “He told me he was concerned about his restaurant employees and customers passing along the virus when making payments. After a lot of research to better understand the problem, the solution we found is unique for sanitizing both cash and credit card terminals in one.”

The company is confident in its “readiness to rise to this unique moment in history.” One of the most exciting things about the startup’s solution is that individuals can help get the product to market as soon as possible. Potential early stage investors can find CleanCash on the equity crowdfunding platform StartEngine.

While many customers are now sanitizing after interacting with payment terminals and workers, the CleanCash solution sanitizes the payment terminal itself between each use. Post COVID-19, the company is betting that consumers will appreciate these additional protections from the viruses and germs that we are exposed to every day.

The CleanCash device includes a tray where customers place their cash. A vacuum-powered set of suction cups lifts and separates each bill, moving them individually over an array of light-emitting diodes, which pulsate UVC rays into the bills. The startup hopes to become the “industry standard for the sanitization of cash and credit card terminals that power the global point-of-sale market.”

As we adapt to a new normal and take steps to keep one another safe by stopping the spread of COVID-19 and protecting essential workers, CleanCash by SaniCash is hoping its innovative technology solution catches on.
