Udit Narayan and his kissing controversy has broken the internet with many talking about the now viral video that surfaced just a few days ago. The veteran singer who has sung in multiple languages in the Indian entertainment industry was one of the most prominent singers from the 1990s and early 2000s.
He is known for his songs in memorable films like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Rangeela, Pukar, Lagaan, Veer-Zaara, Devdas, and Student of the Year, with his duets with another veteran singer Alka Yagnik being iconic.
The winner of four National Film Awards among others, Udit Narayan is still a big name even among today’s younger generation. However, this kiss controversy has led to a lot of backlash, especially about topics like consent, celebrities taking advantage, and more.
Now, other old clips have also resurfaced where Udit Narayan can be seen kissing other female celebrities.
What Is Going Viral?
The whole controversy started after videos surfaced of playback singer Udit Narayan performing his song Tip Tip Barsa Paani at a live concert. In the almost one-minute video, a woman is seen clicking a selfie with the singer who, while performing, bent down to be in the same frame as her.
She then turns to him and leans into him when Udit Narayan presses a kiss on her cheek. Several other people also come forward, trying to click selfies with him and the singer kisses two more women on the cheek as well.

The singer then walks to another part of the stage where a woman in black can be seen taking a selfie with him and then presses a kiss to his cheek when Narayan also turns his face and seems to kiss her on the lips.
The woman in the video seems to be surprised at what happened, after which security seems to come in and stop any more fans from approaching the stage.
These clips quickly went viral with Udit Narayan’s kissing controversy soon becoming a hot topic. But in light of that, other older clips also came up where the playback singer can be seen kissing other female celebrities.

Alka Yagnik seems to have had to deal with this in several instances. One clip from Indian Idol shows Udit kissing Alka Yagnik on the cheek, who even looks shocked and steps back. In a clip from a separate event, he is seen laying another one on her while they are performing a song.

Udit also kissed singer Shreya Ghoshal while he was presenting her with the Best Female Singer award at an award function and in another clip kissed Hindi film actress Karisma Kapoor.
The videos got a lot of backlash with people criticising the singer and disapproving of this behaviour. One user wrote, “Agar AI generated nahi he then dude just destroyed his whole legacy…although iska purana case bhi he.”
Another few wrote comments, “The last one? She came near him probably after seeing what was happening and went for a kiss on his cheeks…” and that “Women are coming voluntarily.”
One user questioned, “He’s definitely a weirdo for kissing random people but these ladies are also going consensually so what can we do really? I don’t understand this level of fan behaviour from people.”
The video also got comments, “Udit ji, these things don’t suit you” or “And then he has the guts to call himself a ‘decent’ man” and that this was “Disgusting and utterly shameful.”
Udit Narayan, however, has defended his actions claiming that there might be an “ulterior motive” behind the videos going viral.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, he said, “Then why would I do something now at this stage of my life when I have achieved it all? People all over the world throng to my concerts. Tickets are pre-sold months in advance. There is a deep pure and unbreakable bond between my fans and I. What you saw in the so-called scandalous video was a manifestation of the love between my fans and I. They love me. I love them back even more.”
When asked whether he was embarrassed or ashamed of what he did, Naryana said, “No, not at all! Why should I be? Do you hear any regret or sorrow in my voice? In fact, I am laughing as I talk to you. It is not something sleazy or secret. It is there in the public domain. My heart is pure. If some people want to see something dirty in my act of pure affection, then I feel sorry for them. I also want to thank them.”
He also believes that there is a conspiracy behind the video saying, “There is something definitely suspicious about this. Why did the video suddenly appear, and that too from a concert from some months ago in the US or Canada?”
Udit Narayan also spoke to HT City about this controversy and said, “Fans itne deewane hote hain na. Some people encourage this and show their love through this. Udaake kya karna hai ab iss cheez ko?”
According to him, fans’ enthusiasm, especially in such moments, can lead to these things happening.
