In India, maternal mortality, defined as a woman’s death during pregnancy or within 42 days after, has witnessed a noteworthy decline. Ziqitza Healthcare, a pioneering healthcare provider, notes that maternal mortality is linked to delivery complications, hypertensive disorders, severe infections, and direct obstetric causes.

According to Medical experts at Ziqitza Healthcare, the latest data from the National Crime Records Bureau indicates a significant improvement in India’s Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR), dropping from 130 to 97. This positive shift is observed across all regions, with rural areas experiencing the highest reduction.

The survey, spanning 2019 to 2022, reveals Assam reported the highest MMR at 195, followed by Madhya Pradesh (173) and Uttar Pradesh (167). In contrast, Kerala boasts the lowest MMR at 19, with Maharashtra and Telangana following closely at 33 and 43, respectively. States with an MMR below 100 (excluding Kerala) accounted for 52% of all births in 2019-22.
