Hello, humans. Searching for a quaint little café that will NOT burn a hole in your pocket? Check out the Hippie Trail– a cosy corner in Hauz Khas Village (New Delhi), a location that is otherwise stuffed with overpriced restaurants. Being hopelessly broke got me wondering where in this urban village I could have a good time, which led me to find this hangout on Zomato.

The WOOs:
- The ambiance of the place is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G: loungey music, amiable staff and owners (I would have hugged them in thanks but I figured it might be somewhat over-enthusiastic for the first visit) as well the decor like that of a really rad living room.
- They have a number of board games and cards, and host photography and travel meets from time to time. *You might very well meet the love of your life here*
- There is a charming window seat next to a shelf stacked with a good collection of books which you can read at your own pace because this is one joint where you can sit and work/play/read/chat for hours at a stretch. And of course, EAT! (Because, hello, that’s the whole point of going out.)

- The food and drinks are delectable. Even better, reasonably priced. We had pasta, masala chai, coffee and their special Ginger, Lemon, Honey Water. I’ve heard their French Toast is worth trying!
- They’ll expect you to take your shoes off. They do have cute little pouffes to sit on but most of the seating are on the cushioned, carpeted floor -at least in winters- which makes for a very comfy visit. (So, please, just please- no smelly socks!)

The MEHs:
- Did I mention that you would be unable to find The Hippie Trail unless you are randomly staggering *for only God wants to know what reason* into a hidden alley? Mercifully, these people answer phone calls and are more than happy to guide you when you need directions. This sweet haven is at the very end of a narrow street leading to the lake.
- The restaurant ends almost as soon as you enter it. It’s like one tiny room in a house. Yes, it’s unexpectedly small but also surprisingly airy. Don’t let it take you aback. Remember: “Great things come in small packages!”
- The window seat is meant to give you a view of the lake below. But a gigantic tree blocks the scenery. But hey, deal with it because that tree is probably contributing more to the environment than you are.
- You’ll be lucky if you can figure out where the nearest restroom is.
The Verdict:
The Hippie Trail ought to be in the top 10 of your Must-Visit bucket list. Share this post with your friends to let them know where to catch up with you next time!
Rating: 4/5 ED Points!
