Spring Summer: New Turf in Menswear

435

Spring is finally here and so are the latest fashion trends of the season. As we dive head first into the start of a new season, we thought it would only be fitting to highlight the key trends you need to be familiar with for spring summer 2015. (Excited already?) Check them all out here:

STATEMENT STRIPES:  With stripes being a perennial summer trend, you shall have plenty of options to choose from. If you already own a classic Breton top, try teaming it with a pair of tailored chino shorts and loafers for a summery look or switch to slim fit trousers, a navy two-button blazer, and monk-strap shoes for something that’s more evening appropriate.

Also consider opting for thicker stripes in order to bring a modern twist to this timeless pattern. But before you rush out to buy them, see what suits you better –horizontal or vertical stripes. Note: Horizontal stripes tend to make you look wider, while vertical stripes draw the eye down quickly, giving the illusion of length and height. So if you’re short, you’re better off avoiding the former, while the latter for taller people. Check them out here:

DENIM GAME: The summer collection 2015 seemed to be celebrating this fabric in particular. Whether you like to keep things casual or refined, quality denim is a must have for a solid wardrobe. Simply team your favorite pair of jeans with a well-fitted T-shirt or an Oxford shirt, trousers and loafers, with a tucker jacket if you want for a more relaxed look. Not just denim jeans but denim shirts are just as much in fashion, so invest in the ones that have a shade that goes well with your personality.

But… when it comes to denim, you CAN’T just buy any denims. Invest in quality denim for something that looks the part and is built to last more than one season. Check them out here:

SUSPENDERS: Suspenders were most fashionable in the midcentury, but as most classic men’s fashion items they are making a come-back. They are one fashion trend that keeps falling in and out of fashion, but this is one trend that you can always wear because it’s never fully out of fashion. Attach suspenders to your trousers or just a pair of denims. Slip on a comfortable oxford shirt or any slim-fit shirt beneath the suspenders. Check them out here:

PARADE OF FLORAL & DYE: Floral is seeing a slow but increasing visibility over the past couple of years. To incorporate this trend, remember to make your floral printed piece the focal point of your look, and frame it with less attention-grabbing neutrals. For daytime beach parties and day wear, a statement floral or dyed shirt or tee goes particularly well with beige or white chinos and sandals. Check them out here:

CHINOS: What are chinos really? Well, the clearest way to put this is that chinos are the middle road between khakis and dress pants. And remember, chinos are okay for semi-formal occasions.  But don’t go too far with it, they still aren’t dress pants and won’t pass as such (except some neutral tones might work for office). Fit. Always go for fit. Few things spell more confidence than a guy who knows how to wear chinos properly. Check them out here:

GREEN AND BLUE IS THE NEW DUO: It may once have been said that blue and green should never be seen together, but in 2015 all we see is blue and green pieces in SS15 collections. The key to carrying off this pairing is to limit the number of other colours you add to the mix. Dark neutrals don’t work well with bold blue and green combos, so try slate grey and white to tie it all together. Check them out here:
