Roland Garros 2015: Bienvenue A France!

188

Bonjour et bienvenue a Paris!

It’s that time of the year again when people make their way to the City of Love. If you’re thinking holiday plans and vacation spots, that is not what I am referring to.

For, if there is anything tourist-y about Paris in the early summer, it is the bright orange clay courts and not the Eiffel Tower. As the temperatures rise, tennis fans finally end the four month long wait for a Grand Slam.

All eyes are on the Roland Garros and as we are mid-way through the second week of the tournament, things are getting heated up!

Here is the top news:

MEN’S SINGLES

Defending Champion Rafael Nadal, or should I say the King of Clay, has set up a quarter-final clash with top seed Novak Djokovic. Last year, Nadal had defeated Djokovic to claim the title. Will it be an encore or will revenge be served cold?

The winner will meet Andy Murray or David Ferrer in the semi-final.

Meanwhile, in the other half of the Draw, Stanislas Wawrinka beat Roger Federer in the quarters. He will now compete with the winner of the Jo Wilfred Tsonga vs Kei Nishikori match in the semi-final.

WOMEN’S SINGLES

Defending Champion Maria Sharapova was defeated by Lucie Safarova in the 4th round and to the dismay of all her fans has made a exit from the Open.

Safarova then went on to beat Garbine Muguruza in the quarter-final and has set up a semi-final clash with Ana Ivanovic who defeated Elina Svitolina.

Top seed Serena Williams will face Sara Errani in the quarter-finals. The winner will compete with the winner of the Timea Bacsinsky vs Alison Van Uytvanck match in the semis.
