The Israel-Hamas crisis is still ongoing and showing a horrifying time for both sides. As per reports, more than 4,000 people have been killed on both sides and over a million people are said to have had to flee from their homes in the Gaza strip.

Israel has counter-attacked after the Hamas attack on Israel and the Israeli government is said to be planning a surprise invasion to take down the Hamas leadership from the inside.

The conflict is reaching a level of humanitarian crisis especially with the Gaza Strip being restricted from clean water, power and medicine, and hospitals and general civilians being bombed in airstrikes by Israel.

After the controversy with the Harvard students and their letter, news has come out of a similar letter coming from student groups at Oxford University who have taken a stand against Israel in the current Israel-Hamas crisis.

What Did The Oxford Students Do?

According to reports, around 14 student groups from Oxford University, including the Oxford Palestine Society, Oxford South Asian Society, and the Oxford South Asian Ambedkar Forum have come out with a joint statement accusing Israel of being the cause behind the current violence going on in both Israel and Palestine, especially the Gaza Strip.

The statement reads “This continuous harm is rooted in the tragedies of illegal occupation, human rights abuses and apartheid that have existed since the onset of the Nakba in 1948. We call for an immediate end to Israel’s genocidal assault on Gaza.

The events of the past several days did not take place in a vacuum: rather they are the result of Palestinians’ long-brewing and well-founded anger in response to Israel forcing them to live in an open-air prison for decades. Every nation that has declared support for Israel is complicit in its genocidal campaign.”

The letter by the Harvard Undergraduate Palestine Solidarity Committee that was signed by around 30+ organizations of the institute had caused a lot of stir among people.

The letter blamed Israel for the attack and said how it “did not occur in a vacuum” and made an appeal saying “We call on the Harvard community to take action to stop the ongoing annihilation of Palestinians.”

The letter was not taken well by many, including several Harvard professors and alumni who eventually had several of the organizations taking back their support from the letter fearing retaliation.

As per reports, there was even unethical doxxing of some of the students who signed the letter that put them in danger in various ways.

A spokesperson from the University of Oxford also stated that “Oxford University’s primary focus is the health and well-being of staff and students impacted by the terrible events in Israel and Gaza, and it has written directly to those affected to offer welfare and other types of support.”
