The 2024 Olympic Games recently concluded in Paris, France. While there were many amazing moments, viral memes, and epic high and low moments that the Paris Olympics saw, there were equally as many romantic moments.
It perhaps fits the description of Paris being the City of Love, that the recent Olympics would have so many romantic moments.
Huang Yaqiong’s Proposal
Chinese badminton player Huang Yaqiong’s boyfriend surprised her with a proposal right after she won the mixed doubles title with partner Zheng Siwei.
Huang’s boyfriend Liu Yuchen proposed to her at the La Chapelle Arena right after her Olympic victory adding a romantic angle to the gold medal the badminton player won.
Lost Wedding Ring In Seine
Olympic high jumper and flag bearer Gianmarco Tamberi from Italy wrote a sentimental and loving apology to his wife after he lost his wedding ring in the Seine River during the opening ceremony.
Tamberi addressing his wife Chiara Bontempi Tamberi, wrote in Italian “I’m sorry, my love, I’m so sorry. Too much water, too many kilos lost in the last few months or maybe the irrepressible enthusiasm of what we were doing. Probably all three things, the fact remains that I felt it slip away, I saw it fly… I followed it with my gaze until I saw it bounce inside the boat. A tinkle of hope… But unfortunately the bounce was in the wrong direction and floating more than a thousand times in the air I saw it dive into the water as if that was the only place where it wanted to be. A few moments that lasted forever.”
He further said that even though it was sad, perhaps there was a silver lining to this writing “But if it really had to happen, if I really had to lose this faith, I couldn’t imagine a better place.
It will remain forever in the riverbed of the city of love, flown away while I was trying to raise the Italian tricolor as high as possible during the opening ceremony of the most important sporting event in the world.
If I had to invent an excuse I would never have been so imaginative. I think there could be a huge poetic side behind yesterday’s misdeed and if you want we will also throw yours into that river so that they will be together forever and we will have one more excuse to, as you always asked me, renew our vows and get married again.
I love you my love. May it be a good omen to return home with an even bigger gold.”
French Runner Proposed To Boyfriend After Breaking European Record
Steeplechase racer Alice Finot from Team France went viral after she proposed to her boyfriend right after breaking the European record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase final. Moments after this, she ran to the stands and dropped to one knee, proposing to her boyfriend, Spanish triathlete Bruno Martinez right then and there.
Speaking with reporters she said, “I told myself that if I ran under nine minutes, knowing that nine is my lucky number and that we’ve been together for nine years, then I would propose.”
She also said, “I don’t like doing things like everyone else. Since he hadn’t done it yet, I thought maybe it was up to me.” The athlete finished her race at eight minutes, 58.67 seconds, placing fourth.
Straight Out Of A Romance Movie
Katerina Siniakova and Tomas Machac, also went viral, especially because of their story that people believe comes straight out of a romantic movie. The duo who won first place in the tennis mixed doubles final celebrated their win with a kiss.
But what was interesting to learn is that the duo, from Czechia, had actually dated for four years and recently broken up. They had decided, however, to compete in the Olympic games together and their kiss after winning the gold medal has led to many running with theories of how the duo should be getting back together.
Sports journalist Rodger Sherman reacted to their kiss saying “YOU CAN’T TELL ME THEY’RE NOT BACK TOGETHER. YOU CANT,” in a Twitter/X post.
The pair although have not confirmed or denied any of the rumours, with Siniakova stating as per Associated Press “That’s our personal life, so you don’t need to know that,” and that “We like when you are confused”. Machac also cheekily said that their relationship status is “top secret”.

Simone Biles’s Biggest Fan
Simon Biles’ husband Jonathan Owens, the NFL Player was also seen in a full cheerleading role. He earned brownie points with the audience when he was seen wearing a ‘Biles’ T-shirt and carrying a USA flag.
Biles has had a turbulent journey when she withdrew from several events at the 2020 Tokoyo Olympics due to her mental health. However, the Olympic gymnast has returned with a furore, winning three gold medals (U.S. team, individual for both all-around and vault) and one silver for floor exercises.
USA’s track and field Olympian’s Viral Moment With Husband
Team USA track and field Olympian Tara Davis-Woodhall went viral after winning gold during the long jump final. However, it wasn’t just because of her incredible achievement but that she ran right into the arms of her husband Hunter Woodhall.
Woodhall was captured wearing a ‘Team Tara’ t-shirt and constantly hyping and cheering for his wife saying she is now “an Olympic champion” after her win. Woodhall himself is a track and field Paralympian.
Swedish Olympian Ran To Girlfriend After Breaking World Record
Swedish pole vaulter Armand “Mondo” Duplantis didn’t even take two seconds to catch his breath after breaking the pole vault world record and getting a gold medal at the 2024 Olympics before running right toward his girlfriend.
People were amazed at how quickly the 24-year-old athlete ran to embrace his girlfriend, 23-year-old Swedish model Desiré Inglander, the two also shared a kiss to celebrate the exhilarating moment.
Not only did the Olympian clear the record set by Thiago Braz at the Rio Games in 2016 by jumping at a 6.10-meter height but also set a new world record by jumping 6.25 meters on his third attempt.
US Women’s Rugby Player Proposed To Her Partner
Team USA’s center for their women’s rugby team Alev Kelter had a double celebration for the Games this year. Not only did the team secure their first-ever medal in women’s rugby, winning the bronze medal, but Alev Kelter later on proposed to her girlfriend US women’s rugby XVs squad member Kathryn Treder.
The rugby player proposed at the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris right after the team won the medal.
