It doesn’t matter if you’re an extremely successful woman. It doesn’t matter if you’re the captain of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team. It also doesn’t matter if your team has performed brilliantly under your leadership in the ICC ODI World Cup recently.
What does matter however, is if you’re sporting a teensy bit of cleavage in a throwback picture with your friends.
Hello my fellow Indians, Mithali Raj was slut shamed by some of our fellow country(men?) for not being ‘sanskaari’ enough to hide her cleavage because, oh my god, cleavages and breasts don’t exist in India!
No wonder such a huge percentage of Indian children are malnourished and the Infant Mortality Rate is so darn high (definitely higher than some of those ‘gira hua soch’.)
The sacrilege started when the national icon uploaded a picture on Twitter. The 34-year-old captain of the Indian women’s cricket team posted a throwback picture with friends Amreen Khurana and Afshan Kaura.
Mithali is seen to be wearing a black spaghetti top that shows off a bit of her cleavage.
And, staying true to their prick-like nature, some Indians went forth with the Mithali Raj slut shaming mission. They asked her, “Are you a porn star?”
So, in India, you are a pornstar if you wear a spaghetti top. Such logic, much wow.
Does thing ring a bell? It does? Yes, Priyanka Chopra. You got it right. PC was also slut shamed for showing her legs while in a meeting with PM Modi. Okay, so Indian women don’t have boobs AND legs. Right.

However, amidst all this, there is one tiny sliver of hope. Mithali’s fans came out in full support of her and lashed out at these people who referred to her as a porn star for wearing a spaghetti top.
Not only did they show their support for this talented captain of the Indian cricket team, they also called out the trolls for having such a sick mindset. The phrase “Soch Badlo, Deshe Badlega” (Change your thoughts and the country will change) was seen to be doing many a rounds on Twitter.
We Indians can’t seem to be able to grasp the idea of privacy. Some of us take it upon ourselves to police everyone who isn’t acting, doing, eating, drinking…basically, living, according to our wishes. So, when a national icon uploads a picture taken with some of her friends at an entirely private atmosphere, she is asked if she is a porn star.
For now, let’s be happy with the fact that the Twitterati were so supporting of her and ruthlessly called out the trolls. The wheels are hopefully, turning.
Also, in other WTF news…wait for this, Salman Khan just inaugurated a driving school in Dubai.
