MCU, or the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become one of the highest-earning movie franchises of all time. Be it their focus on amazing CGI or lighthearted yet equally intense superhero characters, the series has gone on to give us some of the most spectacular movies in the past 8 years.
What builds their command on the top spot every time they release a movie is their brilliance on getting their story, setting and timelines in balance with all the existing characters. Owing to that, the series has completed two successful phases and is now into Phase 3, which started with the release of Captain America : Civil War.
The MCU Phase 3 seems to be in pretty good shape in the early stages as Civil War and Doctor Strange have been hugely successful and the trend doesn’t seem to cease any time soon. But what follows this? Not the upcoming movie titles (which we are aware of) but about the general changes and shift in the MCU.
Do the Avengers continue to function with S.H.I.E.L.D and Nick Fury? Do Captain America and Iron Man reconcile? A lot of unanswered questions, right? Let’s see and analyze a little as to how this may pan out :
1. The (Predicted) Future Of Captain America :
It’s all but confirmed that Captain America will be a part of the “Infinity War” story-line but where does he go after the Civil War? Does he go into hiding? Does he begin forming the much hyped “Secret Avengers”? Or does he actually get back with Iron Man just before the Infinity War? All these questions will continue to surface till it culminates in 2018. Steve already lost his faith in S.H.I.E.L.D so trusting them would be a far-fetched move for him.
2. The Infinity Stones :
We know that Thanos is already searching for them and 5 of them have already been revealed but what about the 6th one?
Now, look a little closer at this theory :
T – Tesseract, the space stone
H –
A – Aether, the reality stone
N – Necklace (Eye of Agamotto), the time stone
O – Orb, the power stone
S – Scepter of Loki, the mind stone
The first letters of each stone LITERALLY SPELL “T.H.A.N.O.S”. The big bad guy of the MCU, Thanos has been carefully and rather brilliantly been made to hide in plain sight. Oh, Kevin Fiege! You wonderful genius. The guess work now shifts to detecting where the final stone may be? Will be with HELA, who’s known to manipulate souls (AND SCHEDULED TO APPEAR IN THOR : RAGNAROK) and since H will be the soul stone or will it be with Adam Warlock who is also known as HIM, the much hyped keeper of the stone from Marvel Comics?
3. Aren’t Spiderman Reebots Getting A Bit TOO Exhausting? :
Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and now Tom Holland. 3 +2 + Spiderman : Homecoming. My God, mother of disputes and reboots!
This is the 3rd time that Spiderman is being played by a new guy and for some reason, I’m not excited. I was supercharged when Ben Affleck came in place of Christian Bale as Batman but this is just getting plain boring. Marvel better get this version right with the new movie in 2017 as Tom Holland received unanimous praise for his role in Civil War.
4. Too Many Origin Stories For Too Many Characters. Yay Or Nay? :
Just to increase the lineup against Thanos, MCU is offering up origin stories to a lot of characters. Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Spiderman reboot (may be an origin story, may not be) and even Captain Marvel. Yes, origin stories are cool but do we really need 67 (speculated) characters against Thanos? Yes, Infinity War is supposed to be a superhero epic film but the build needs to be rather subtle and clean and not include too many back-stories.
To sum it up, Phase 3 of MCU has begun well and post Civil War, it will be nice to see how they re-establish the old Avengers right before the mega war and how Thanos’s motive is revealed. Guardians Of The Galaxy is another angle which needs to be merged with the existing Avengers universe and that’s a very critical angle since their timeline has The Orb, which is the power stone.
Can the idea of a mega ensemble cast be executed well? Can they re-unite the disbanded Avengers? All these questions shall be answered in Phase 3.
MCU and Kevin Fiege have always come up with something brilliant and our faith is still with them.
Here’s hoping they continue to make spectacular movies.
