India is quickly appearing on several lists of the wealthiest people or companies in the world. The 2024 Hurun India Rich List, released on 29 August, claims that 1,539 Indians have a net worth of over ₹ 1,000 crore. This is a big leap from last year when there were only 220 people on this particular India’s richest list.
The list also revealed that India is now home to 334 billionaires, with many new faces also joining the top 20 sectors.
The list also included a section of the top 10 wealthiest self-made women, and while most are from the corporate sector or entrepreneurs, one actress got ranked.
Who Is The Richest Self-Made Actress In India?
Juhi Chawla has found her name among the top 10 self-made women list, released by the 2024 Hurun India Rich List.
The Hurun India Rich list states that Juhi Chawla’s net worth is Rs. 4,600 crore, placing her at the sixth position on the list and making her the richest self-made actress in the country.
She also places just second after Shah Rukh Khan with a net worth of over Rs. 7,000 crore.
While Juhi Chawla was among the top actors during the early 90s and 2000s, she has only had a few acting projects in the last decade or so. However, that doesn’t mean she has been without any work.
One of the reasons for the Bollywood veteran actress’s wealth is her being co-owner of the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) with her husband, Jay Mehta, and Shah Rukh Khan.
Forbes in 2022 placed KKR’s net worth at a whopping $1.1 billion (around Rs 9,139 crore).
Beyond that, Juhi Chawla and her husband, the Chairman of The Mehta Group, who got married in 1995, have been collecting luxury homes and expensive cars worth crores.
According to reports, some of their luxury fleet of cars include the BMW 7 Series, priced at Rs 1.8 crore, a Mercedes-Benz S Class worth Rs 1.7 crore, a Jaguar XJ worth Rs 1.2 crore, a Porsche Cayenne priced between Rs 1.36-2 crore, and an Aston Martin Rapide, priced at Rs 3.3 crore.

It is also reported that Juhi Chawla’s brand recognition is still high enough even after not doing films consistently and as a lead where she charges in crores for a single appearance.
According to reports, Juhi has also crossed over other Indian actresses in net worth including Aishwarya Rai (Rs. 900 crores), Priyanka Chopra (Rs. 850 crore), Alia Bhatt (Rs. 550 crores), Deepika Padukone (Rs. 400 crores), and Katrina Kaif (Rs. 240 crores).
The report also revealed that Juhi Chawla along with her family reside in Malabar Hill, considered to be among Mumbai’s most prestigious neighbourhoods. They live in Jay Mehta’s family-owned apartment building.
The list was topped, however, by Radha Vembu of Zoho who is said to have a net worth of a spectacular Rs. 47,500 crore. She is followed by Falguni Nayar of Nykaa and her family and Jayshree Ullal, CEO of Arista Networks having a wealth of Rs. 32,200 crore and Rs. 32,100 crore respectively.
Neha Bansal with a wealth of Rs. 4,900 crore was also placed in the list of top 10 self-made women in India. This also makes the co-founder of eyewear retail company Lenskart the youngest self-made woman entrepreneur in the 2024 Hurun India Rich List.
The list also showed that Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani has replaced Mukesh Ambani, the Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries to become the richest Indian with a net worth of Rs. 1,161,800 crore. Mukesh Ambani & family stand second with a wealth of Rs. 1,014,700 crore.
