We have all heard about Gokul in stories, it is mentioned as the town in which Lord Krishna was raised. But to this day the people of this town are dedicating their entire lives to the Lord.
This is one of the few towns in India where there is no non-veg food, no alcohol and no lower cast people. Even if the town people need a cobbler he comes from outside the village. The place is filled with temples and meditation halls and has Krishna’s name written on almost every corner of the village. The main occupation of people living here is managing the Mandir trust, or do something related to the temple.
This town is situated on the banks of Yamuna. Lord Krishna apparently was left in Yamuna after birth and he was found on the banks by Vasudeva and then adopted
People who manage to leave the village for work, later come back and donate a lot of wealth to help the village sustain
The village has a lot of monkeys who are also worshipped by the people and fed with chana and lai
Gokul has the same old appearance and has hardly gone through any changes in all these years. Apparently the people believe that Lord Krishna doesn’t like any changes in his hometown.
The village is full of illustrations and painting from the life of Lord Krishna
Each donation you make here is recorded in the books with your complete name, your father-mother’s name and address
The place is filled with small temples dedicated to all forms and family of Lord Krishna
The people of this town don’t involve in any other work other than the work of the lord. They either help with the temple or sell prasad and toys to the tourists
Another very important destination for Krishna devotees is Dwarka where Krishna ruled. In this fast paced generation it is very unique to see people who have dedicated their entire lives in the name of god and refuse to leave this small village which is about 15 kilometers from Mathura. Their power of belief is commendable and hopefully they will be rewarded for such faith.
