ED VoxPop is where we ask people different survey questions and get responses to conduct sort of a poll of our own.
Ever since its release, Dhurandhar has been making headlines for its success. The film has got people talking, not just about its bold storyline, but also about Bollywood’s choice towards more gore and raw cinema.
The film is attracting reactions of every kind, ranging from its cast selection to the choice of scenes in the movie. While some people have praised the raw and gritty scenes, others have questioned whether Bollywood is simply overdoing violence in the name of realism.
This conversation isn’t new, as movies like Animal have already raised questions about where honest storytelling in cinema is ending, and dark themes are simply getting glorified.
However, the release of Dhurandhar has sparked the debate further to question what the audience really thinks about Bollywood’s experimentation with graphic themes and scenes.

So, we ask Gen Z if we, as the audience, are enjoying raw, gory content like Dhurandhar/Animal, or if Bollywood needs to bring it down a notch. Here’s what they have to say.
What we can draw from this is that, as an audience, Gen Z isn’t really against gory content and graphic scenes, but rather it asks for balance. If the message the film wants to deliver can be conveyed without overdoing it, then maybe Bollywood can dial it down a bit.
Gen Z isn’t entirely rejecting the idea of violence if it is there to deliver the reality of the storyline. However, it’s important to differentiate between violence in Indian cinema meant for the story, and that meant just for shock.
Films like Dhurandhar show the evolution of Indian cinema as it is slowly moving towards braver and more honest stories that show the reality of how things really are. If taken through the right path, the future of Indian cinema is very promising and bright.
