This October, Delhi Metro will be introducing a brand new line that will run from Janakpuri West to the Botanical Gardens and will be called the ‘Magenta Line’.
One of the most special features of this line is the reduced wait time that drops down from the earlier 135 seconds to just 100 seconds.
But the faster speed is not the only good thing about this upcoming line, there is also the fact that the Magenta Line metros will be driverless.
The line that stretches a sweet 36.98km will be commissioned in 3 months and as per reports will run on the state of the art technology called CBCT or the Communication Based Train Control.
The CBCT is actually the cause of the decreased wait time to just 100 seconds, as it will allow the trains to run with a reduced gap on the same track, thus ensuring a higher frequency.
A DMRC official was quoted saying that, “In our present corridors, the minimum distance kept between two trains varies from 50 metres to 90 metres, depending on the train type. However, in the Magenta and Pink Lines, this gap has been reduced to 30 metres, which allows better frequency of trains.”

This technology of CBCT will be installed in both the Magenta and the Pink Lines and has recently also been used in the Kochi Metro.
The technology apart from increasing the speed of the trains is also behind the driverless operations of the train. It is expected that by March 2018 the CBCT technology will completely functional for Phase III corridors.
There is a catch to this technology, however, and it is that with the faster frequency, DMRC will now have to increase the number of trains deployed in order to meet the raised demand.
But DMRC already seems to be on to this point and according to news reports is looking to acquire more trains for the soon to come Phase III corridors.
Although still a bit away to come, the Magenta could be a great addition to Delhi Metro system and hopefully, the CBCT technology can be added to the existing corridors too.

2. Palam
3. Indira Gandhi Domestic Airport Indira Gandhi International Airport
4. Vasant Vihar
5. IIT
6. Hauz Khas
7. Kalkaji Mandir
8. Okhla Vihar
9. Kalindi Kunj
10. Botanical Gardens Metro Station- it will also be the only interchangeable station in the NCR region that lies outside of Delhi.
