Criminals often acquire interesting nicknames, usually related to their crimes. Some receive cool, badass-sounding ones that instil fear and trepidation in anyone who hears them; others might have innocent names, and then there are bizarre and crazy nicknames, one of which is the ‘Potty Badmash.’
The Delhi Police finally arrested this notorious knifer and pickpocket on Wednesday after he had managed to escape several times before. Even though the criminal deployed his usual plan of escape, this time, the police were prepared.
What Is The Case Of The ‘Potty Badmash’?
The Press Trust of India (PTI) first reported on the infamous ‘Potty Badmash’ finally being arrested on March 24, 2025. A patrolling team near Eidgah Park spotted the 27-year-old knifer and pickpocket on Monday. According to reports, he was noticed due to his suspicious behaviour, and when he caught sight of the police officials, he attempted to flee.
According to an officer, “Teams gave chase and pinned him down. As expected, Deepak deployed his infamous ‘filth plan,’ but the officers, equipped with gloves and masks, thwarted his last-ditch effort and took him into custody.”
The officer also revealed that a search led to the discovery of his knife, which the accused, Deepak, considers a “lucky charm.” An official stated, “A knife, which Deepak said he calls his ‘lucky knife’ and keeps on his person at all times, was also recovered. A case has been registered under the Arms Act.”
The accused, wanted for multiple knife attacks and chain snatchings in North Delhi’s Sadar Bazar area, has been apprehended several times in the past but would resort to the disgusting act of defecating in his pants. This would cause the police to step back in shock and cover their noses. Whenever he sensed danger or believed he was about to be caught, Deepak would soil himself, creating such a foul stench that people, including the police, instinctively kept their distance. He would use this moment of hesitation to flee the scene.

This time, however, the police were ready for him and had masks and gloves prepared to ensure he couldn’t escape. Deputy Commissioner of Police Raja Banthia said, “This criminal has escaped in this manner many times. As soon as a policeman would catch him, he would immediately activate his filthy plan.”
The accused reportedly has around half a dozen cases against him and was taken to the Sadar Bazar police station following his arrest. According to the police, he confessed to several mobile thefts and knife-related crimes in the area during his interrogation.
This is not the first time someone has done this to evade arrest. One previous instance is from October 2020, when an accused named Arjun used faeces on his body to escape being apprehended. A Delhi Police team patrolling the Nitya Nand Marg near Kashmere Gate metro station became suspicious of two men on a bike. When they were asked to stop, they became aggressive.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Anto Alphonse explained, “Their bike slipped, and they tried to escape from the spot. However, one suspect managed to flee by running in the opposite direction of traffic on Yudhister Setu, whereas Arjun was caught after around a one-kilometre chase.”
The suspect then not only attempted to pepper spray the police but also applied faeces taken from his trousers over his body and even some on a policeman’s uniform. This did not work, though, and he was arrested.
