Sakoli (Maharashtra) [India], September 16: MB Patel College, in collaboration with MBIG Company, successfully organised a one-day IT Awareness Program to educate students on internship scams, cybersecurity, and social media frauds. The initiative aimed to prepare students for the increasing digital threats that come with today’s academic and professional challenges.
The highlight of the session was an address by Mr. Shubham Parkhedkar, CEO of MBIG Company, who emphasised the importance of staying alert in the digital era. He explained how students are often misled by fake internships and placement offers where fraudsters demand money in exchange for opportunities.
“Internships are meant to build skills and knowledge, not exploit students financially. Any company asking for money is committing fraud, and students must refuse such offers,” said Mr. Parkhedkar.
The session also focused on guidelines issued by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). Students were reminded that genuine internships are always free, stipends are benefits and not charges, and official documents like offer letters and certificates must be provided. Fraudulent practices must be reported immediately to authorities such as the Department of Science & Technology (DST). Verification of companies through trusted sources such as the MCA portal, GST/MSME registration, Google News, ScamAdviser, and social media platforms was strongly advised.
Additionally, the program stressed cyber security awareness. Students were cautioned against clicking suspicious links, sharing personal details on unverified websites, and falling for phishing scams spread through emails and social media. Mr. Parkhedkar explained that fake job offers and phishing remain among the fastest-growing cyber threats today, and vigilance is the best defense.
The faculty and coordinators of MB Patel College played a vital role in organising the event and ensuring active student participation. Their collaboration with MBIG Company provided a platform for students to learn how to safeguard themselves in both online spaces and career-related opportunities.
By conducting such programs, MB Patel College reaffirmed its commitment to equipping students with practical knowledge and digital safety skills, empowering them to navigate today’s competitive world with awareness and confidence.
