Indian-born filmmaker celebrates milestone moment with international recognition for visual storytelling.

Los Angeles, CA – August 2025 — Cinematographer and Director of Photography Smit Patel has been honored with his first Best Cinematography Award this year, marking a significant milestone in a career defined by bold visual style and emotional resonance.

Born in India, Patel’s creative roots trace back to still photography before evolving into narrative filmmaking. His distinctive noir style and use of motivated light have made him a sought-after collaborator on projects across genres — from suspenseful shorts to visually rich music videos.

Patel’s award-winning work joins a portfolio that includes festival-featured titles such as Blood on Your Teeth, Lost Years, and Ai Seize the Day.

Reflecting on his journey, Patel calls it a “rollercoaster,” shaped by mentors like David Armstrong and Chris Rossiter, and grounded in a belief that “art is subjective.”

With a Gujarati feature film and a US-spanning documentary currently in production, Patel is cementing his place as a global creative voice, bridging cultures and cinematic traditions.
