Shortly after the Hamas group carried out the attack on Israel, the Harvard Undergraduate Palestine Solidarity Committee wrote a statement about how the attack “did not occur in a vacuum.”

The letter called the Gaza Strip an “open-air prison” and claimed that Israel’s “apartheid regime is the only one to blame,” for their current situation as per Harvard’s student newspaper The Harvard Crimson.

The statement further wrote that the groups “hold the Israeli regime entirely responsible for all unfolding violence”, concluding the letter by saying “We call on the Harvard community to take action to stop the ongoing annihilation of Palestinians.”

The letter, however, was not well received, and almost as per New York Post around 4 of the 34 organisations that signed the letter have taken back their support for it along with various students of other organisations distancing themselves.

In the midst of all this, an American billionaire hedge fund manager posted about wanting to boycott all the students who wrote the letter and asking Harvard to reveal their identity so they would never get hired by his or a few other companies.

What Did This CEO Say?

On 10th October, Bill Ackman the founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Pershing Square Capital Management, posted on his Twitter/X profile writing “I have been asked by a number of CEOs if @harvard would release a list of the members of each of the Harvard organizations that have issued the letter assigning sole responsibility for Hamas’ heinous acts to Israel, so as to insure that none of us inadvertently hire any of their members.”

The Harvard alum encouraged the institute to release the names of the students who signed the letter adding “If, in fact, their members support the letter they have released, the names of the signatories should be made public so their views are publicly known.

One should not be able to hide behind a corporate shield when issuing statements supporting the actions of terrorists, who, we now learn, have beheaded babies, among other inconceivably despicable acts.”

While Ackman himself didn’t release any names of the CEOs who were asking for the list of names, or the companies involved in this, there were a few who agreed with his sentiment and supported what he was saying.

Some of these included:

  • Jonathan Neman, CEO of salad chain Sweetgreen

Jonathan wrote “I would like to know so I know never to hire these people.”

  • Jake Wurzak, CEO of DoveHill Capital Management

Wurzak commented, “I second this.”

  • David Duel, CEO of EasyHealth
  • Michael Broukhim, CEO of FabFitFun

Michael supported the post too writing “We are in as well.”
