Breakfast Babble is ED’s own little space on the interwebs where we gather to discuss ideas and get pumped up (or not) for the day. We judge things, too. Sometimes. Always. Whatever, call it catharsis and join in, people.
Nothing. I repeat. Nothing in this entire world can prepare you for hostel life.
Hostel life turns your boring life into a television drama series that you didn’t even sign up for. Because thanks to the very different characters I live with, I genuinely don’t feel the need to binge-watch a TV show anymore.
One moment, you’re a fresh high school pass-out walking into the hostel with big dreams. The next moment, you’re somehow standing in the middle of a corridor catfight that has absolutely nothing to do with you, but you’re equally invested.
Of course, it has its perks. You’re on your own terms. You decide when to sleep, what to eat, and how to live. You make some core memories of your life here and meet people who stick by your side through thick and thin.

But then, there’s the other side.
That one group that gets on your nerves every single day. The unnecessary noise, especially when you have an important exam. Then there’s the fight over stolen clothes or snacks. The sound of someone crying because their “fifth situationship this month” chose to ghost them.
There’s drama, last-minute birthday surprises, and gossip that makes you go like, “OHHH???”
It’s chaotic. It’s loud. It’s dramatic, to say the least.
Sometimes, hostel life spices things up in the best way possible. And sometimes it messes things up in the most unnecessary way possible. These are the days you genuinely wonder if peace is too much to ask for.
Would I want something calmer?
Definitely.
Would I want to escape the drama sometimes?
100%.
But could I imagine my college life without all of this madness?
Maybe not.
Because no matter how many fights or gossips I’m a part of, somewhere deep inside, I know these are the stories I’m going to tell years later, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.
