It is not uncommon for opposition parties to always be at loggerheads with each other. Using various topics as a way to bring the other down or mock them and most importantly keep each other in check.
In a democracy, the opposition in the political sphere works as a supervisor for the ruling party to not get too comfortable or take undue advantage of the power that they’ve been given. This has been the case since ages now, but it seems that the topic for taunts are moving beyond just being focused on the work that the ministers are doing and including their clothing and accessories too.
This was seen when BJP’s Shehzad Poonawalla pointed out how Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge was wearing an expensive scarf.
Mockery Over A Winter Accessory
Shehzad Poonawalla BJP’s national spokesperson mocked Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge for wearing a scarf by luxury brand Louis Vuitton while in Parliament. He compared that with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s own “sustainable fashion”.
Apparently, PM Modi’s jacket was made from recycled PET bottles while Kharge’s scarf supposedly costs around Rs 56,332.
In his tweet he wrote “Taste Apna Apna, Message Apna Apna PM @narendramodi sends a “green message” with his sustainable fashion – blue jacket; enlisting Jan Bhagidari for the cause of sustainable growth & environment Meanwhile, Kharge ji sports an expensive LV scarf ((not making any judgment)).”

Not just the members but various social media users also mocked the Congress chief over his winter accessory.
As per reports, this is also not the first time that the BJP has used the clothes of politicians of opposition parties as a way to mock them. The party had earlier in September of 2022 called out Rahul Gandhi’s Burberry t-shirt, said to cost around Rs 41,000 and even TMC MP Mahua Moitra’s ‘expensive’ Louis Vuitton bag.
Congress retaliated by stating that “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s suit costs Rs 10 lakh” while Moitra tweeted out that “Seriously advise BJP to not cross line & comment on Opposition’s personal clothes & belongings. Remember if we start doing the same with watches, pens, shoes, rings & clothes BJP MPs wear, you’ll rue the day you started this game.”
