American Women Are Going On A Sex Strike After Donald Trump’s Win

Donald Trump’s win as President of the United States of America (USA) has created a furor across the country with many people being unhappy with the result. The victory just instilled the point that Americans would rather have a convicted felon as a president rather than a woman.

Trump was convicted of a felony in 2024 by a New York jury of falsifying records that claimed he paid hush money to pornographic actress Stormy Daniels.

He further faced indictment over mishandling classified documents, interfering in the 2020 election, and even sexual abuse, defamation and financial fraud.

In light of the election results, however, American women are turning to the ‘4B movement’, a South Korean feminist movement, to raise their voices.

What Are American Women Doing?

The movement is inspired by the South Korean feminist movement of 4B, in which women declare a ban against four behaviours toward men: dating, sex, marriage, and children. The B in the term could also arise from the word ‘bi’, which in the Korean language is a prefix for negative words.

Telegraph quotes a woman from a TikTok video saying, “For the next four years I am going to abstain from sex with men.”

Touching the topic of abortion one woman said, “If all these men are voting to take our rights away, they don’t deserve to touch a woman for the next four years. So, hope you thought that through you guys.”

Another woman said, “Good luck getting laid. Especially in Florida, because me and my girlies are participating in the 4B movement.” This was about Florida rejecting the proposal to include abortion rights in the state law.

One video posted had the caption “I think it’s time for American women to participate in our own 4B movement.”

Dystopian, Feminist Book Sales Rise

In addition, after Trump’s victory as president, the sale of dark fantasy books, which include topics like dystopia, feminism, tyranny, and more, has risen.

Margaret Atwood’s ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ climbed up by 400 spots on the US Amazon Best Sellers list, clocking in a rank of third, and even its sequel ‘The Testaments’ has seen an increase in sales. The Amazon Top 40 list also saw the likes of George Orwell’s 1984 and Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451.

As per a report by The Guardian, Sami Sage and Emily Amick’s book Democracy in Retrograde has also seen a rise of almost 30,000% in sales, coming at the top in the Movers and Shakers chart. The chart lists books based on how big of a sale they’ve had in the last 24 hours.

The 2014 feminist essay collection, Men Explain Things to Me by Rebecca Solnit, rose by 40,000 spots, ranking in the top 300s while Paola Ramos’ book Defectors, about the growth of far-right ideology among Latino men, has also risen considerably.

All of this is being considered due to the political unrest that the USA is experiencing after Donald Trump’s win as President of the country for a second time.

Molly Ash, the newsstand buyer at Book Soup in LA, told Entertainment Weekly also commented on this saying “With our current president, people’s taste in reading has definitely changed.”
