Akshay Kumar is apparently at a hot streak right now what with him giving some really great films liken Airlift and Rustom recently. Both the films have had a very serious atmosphere and focused on some very important incidents that India has gone through.
Now with his latest movie which is apparently called ‘Toilet- Ek Prem Katha’ Kumar is venturing into the satire genre with his co-star Bhumi Pednekar and helming the film is Shree Narayan Singh who would also be making his directorial debut with this film.
So the concept from what I’ve gleaned so far is that it will sort of be a satirical film commenting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abihyaan, our changing society and various other issues that our country is going through.
Nothing bad, will have to wait for the film to come out to see whether it actually delivers on its promises or not.
So by now you must be wondering why exactly am I talking of an Akshay Kumar film that is barely a week or so into production… well the reason is the controversy that has risen around the name of the film and a few scenes in it as well.
Now They Wont Wait Till 2 Days Before The Release
You guys remember how all these politicians, historians and locals would suddenly wake up from their deep slumber just 2 days before the release of a film, in order to point out all the wrongs that was shown in the movie?
Well, apparently we are long past that attitude guys, we are the new protesters and we will find faults in a movie that is barely a week into making.
Yes, a lot of the Mathura locals, which is where the Akshay Kumar film is being shot have raised protests and arguments over the fact that the film is ‘against tradition’ by depicting a marriage scene between a boy and a girl from the twin villages of Nandgaon and Barsana respectively.
Also that the producers should change the name of the movie as putting the word ‘toilet’ for a movie that is being shot in the land of ‘Krishna’ is not pious.
Is This Really Something We Need To Spend Time And Energy On?
I have also come across this news bit where a Mathura sadhu is offering 1 crore rupees to the person who brings the tongue of the director to him.
Le sigh.
I understand the sentimental values that one has with their traditions, but this is just so far and away unnecessary and illogical to be fighting about.
I mean, it is a movie, a work of fiction and should be treated as such. There is absolutely no need to get all amped up over something that is not real in order to maintain an old and outdated tradition which has no real base.
Signing off I would just like to say that, instead of focusing on the title or who is marrying whom in the movie, it would do us better if we focused on the story itself, and what exactly is it trying to teach.
