It is a common understanding that admission into an Ivy League college is directly proportional to a very high GPA (Grade Point Average). However, it is not only the marks that matter. 

Most people believe that only high college credit or extraordinary marks guarantee admission to the top colleges in the world. This leads to their premature self-rejection. Students with less-than-perfect scores disqualify themselves and don’t even dare enter the application process. 

The admission committee looks into other critical factors as well. Therefore, a student must not stop from applying to top institutes if their GPA is not a stellar 4 and at the same time, must not be over-confident of getting an admission if the only thing they got is a stellar 4.

The logic behind this is grade inflation. Since a large number of students with an A grade are applying to Ivy League colleges, admission officers are not able to gauge the applicants’ preparedness for the rigorous coursework awaiting them. 

Just getting straight A’s is not enough information for us to know whether the students are going to succeed or not,” said Stuart Schmill, the Dean of Admission at M.I.T (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).
