Mr. Jemis explained why he chose to pursue lab-grown diamonds by saying, “The modern consumer is unwilling to compromise on quality and craftsmanship, regardless of their budget, so for us, lab-grown diamonds represented a unique opportunity to not only fulfill that need but to do so sustainably and ethically”. Defining Lab Grown Diamonds

Unlike natural diamonds which form over millions of years, Lab Grown Diamonds or Synthetic Diamonds are named as such about the chemical process utilized to make them. In terms of their properties, both natural and lab-grown diamonds are identical, from their visual appearance to their level of hardness and durability, and like natural diamonds, lab-grown diamonds are also awarded certifications based on their attributes.

Creating Jama Jewels’ Diamonds

As previously mentioned, Lab-grown diamonds are made using a chemical process in a laboratory. Diamonds can be made using 2 distinct processes, Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) and high-pressure High Temperature (HPHT). Jama Jewels utilize the former to create their diamond, citing that it is easier than the alternative and uses less energy to do so. When asked, Mr. Patel explained the process as follows, “So the CVD Process starts with a seed crystal being placed in a gas chamber which is heated and when this temperature is just right, the gases in the chamber start forming layers of carbon on the crystal and eventually form a square-shaped diamond. The whole process takes up about 1 month to produce a diamond of 1 carat.”
