2013 Singapore Grand Prix

20130705The only night race in the calender took place on the 22nd of September. It was one of Sebastian Vettel’s best performances till date, the lead from start to finish. Vettel is currently at the top of the Drivers Championship Standing with 247 points, a cool 60 points ahead of Fernando Alonso who has 187 points. Lewis Hamiltion is third in the standing with 151 points.

The Singaporean GP this year saw its fair share of brilliant driving and strategies. Alonso started seventh on the grid and finished second. Raikonnen came third inspite of starting from 13th position. Team mates Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton finished 4th and 5th respectively. Rosberg started second but a little bad strategy with tires held him back from a podium finish. It was a disappointing race for Force India; Paul di Resta did not finish and Adrian Sutil came tenth and scored 1 point.

The most controversial incident from the race was when Mark Webber’s car broke down on the last lap, and Alonso picked him up on his victory lap. This drew a lot of cheering from the crowds but the F1 officials took it very seriously, they handed out ten place grid penalties to both of them for the next race in Korea.

Whilst some people said, the incident showed a good bond and friendship amongst the drivers and that there’s more to the sport than just fierce competition amongst drivers, I strongly disagree, the place where Alonso stopped the car was a blind turn and could have turned nasty. The penalty given seems fair.webber_taxi_ride_22-09-2013  You can see it in the video attached.
