Swara Bhasker Creates Controversy With Her Opinion On The Israel-Hamas War

The Palestinian militant groups led by Hamas carried out a wide-scale invasion and offensive against Israel. They broke through the Gaza–Israel barrier and from the Gaza Strip and called it the ‘Operation al-Aqsa Storm.’

This is reportedly the first of such a widespread attack inside the Israeli boundaries since the 1948 Arab–Israeli War. In recent reports, the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu officially said that Israel was now ‘at war’.

According to sources hundreds of Israelis have died and thousands have been left wounded in lieu of the attack and Israel’s military has also taken action against the group.

What Did Swara Bhasker Do?

In an Instagram Story, Swara Bhasker wrote “If you have not felt shock and horror at Israel’s unending atrocities on Palestinians, the forcible occupation of Palestinian homes, the forced evictions, the bigotry and violence of settler Israelis, the murder of Palestinian children and teenagers, the decades long blockade and bombing of Gaza and civilians in Gaza, including bombing of schools and hospitals (not to mention the apartheid and occupation), then I’m afraid your shock and horror at Hamas’ attacks on Israel seem a bit hypocritical.”

This came a little after actor Kangana Ranaut had posted on her own Instagram Stories that, “It’s impossible to scroll through SM and not get jolted/ scarred/ appalled of deeply disturbed looking at Israeli women pictures, even their corpses are being raped and molested by terrorists.

It broke me into a million pieces, my heart goes out to Israel and its girls and women. Every martyr deserves a dignified death.”

Bhasker’s entire point was to call out the people showing shock over the attacks on Israel by the Hamas fighters and how it was hypocritical if they had been silent all this while over the reported “atrocities” on Palestinians by Israel so far.

This caused several people to stand against her views and bash her on social media.

It is also not the first time that she has condemned Israel for its acts against Palestine as in 2012 she said that “Israel is an apartheid state. Israel is a terrorist state. Enough said…Free Palestine.” This statement came out after East Jerusalem erupted in violence between Palestine demonstrators and Israeli forces.

In another tweet, she wrote, “The cause of Palestine and justice for Palestinians isn’t an Islamic cause… at least it shouldn’t solely be that… it is first and foremost an anti-imperialist, anti-colonial and anti-apartheid cause and that’s why it should concern us all, even non-Muslims.”
