Railways Issue Stern Tweet After Passenger Found Sleeping With Feet On Food Tray

Parents plonking their kids square on the delicate food trays or littering here and there, such sights are very common in Indian railway stations.

Recently, the picture of a man fast asleep with his feet on the food tray has gone viral, amassing more than 30,000 views and sparking anger.

What Actually Happened?

A YouTuber, with a channel named, AarifsMindVoice, posted a video, sharing his experience of traveling on the Vande Bharat train. A man who goes by the handle Namma Kovai, took a screenshot of a scene from this YouTube video, where the man was sleeping with his bare feet resting on the food tray and posted on X.

“Chennai Vande Bharat. Such actions are not only disrespectful but also set a negative example for wider community. Placing one’s feet on surfaces designated for dining is unsanitary and exhibits a lack of basic etiquette,” he captioned, tagging the Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS) officer.

The Reaction Of The IRAS Officer

Ananth Rupanagudi, the IRAS officer and the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Salem, Tamil Nadu retweeted this post, saying, “Please use the fittings for the purpose they are meant for.

They have been created for you with your money, and hence you have a responsibility towards those fittings. And these trains are built at a considerable cost. Please travel responsibly. #VandeBharat.”

This tweet has gathered 42,000 views in just a day.

However, this is not the first time that this IRAS officer urged people to ‘travel responsibly’ on trains. In November 2022, Ananth Rapanugudi shared a picture of two children sitting on a food tray, with their parents sitting in front of them on the Vande Bharat Express Train.

One of the main reasons for breaking of snack trays or defective snack trays in #VandeBharat and other trains! Even with photographic evidence, whiners would say that I pass on the blame only to passengers!” he captioned the post.

Reactions Of The Netizens

Soon after these tweets went viral on social media, netizens were quick to react.

“We will be placed lowest if civic behaviour is ranked worldwide,” said a person with the handle name EqualLives.

Another person who goes by the Twitter account name, Sahil Sharma wrote, “Strictest of fines is only way to fix this mentality.”

The day all citizens start thinking about our duty & responsibility, it will be a great day for atmanirbhar bharat,” commented another user.

The Society for Accident Free Environment commented, “Lot of awareness is require on how to make use of the public properties. People have been habituated mostly to misuse or improper usage of facilities provided by the government. One should know how important is the decency and hygiene.”

Even after repeated warnings by the railway staff, the passengers continue to make such mistakes, and above mentioned posts are proof of the same.
