Call it a bad habit or peculiarity, but I cannot remember a single day since I was 5 when I didn’t put on a Harry Potter DVD while having my lunch at home. I cannot help but travel to the land of Hogwarts again and again and still not feel bored.
Harry Potter has been such an integral part of my growing up. My childhood was shaped by this epic fantasy. I remember my maternal uncle gifting me the DVD of the first Harry Potter series, “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.” And since then, I’ve become completely obsessed with it.
I read my first Harry Potter novel when I was 12 years old. I would save my pocket money to buy all the books in the Harry Potter series. My parents were very supportive of this too. They would often gift me Harry Potter books, DVDs, bags, and stickers on my birthdays.

My mom still narrates to me a funny incident from when I was 6-7 years old. I would refuse to finish my dinner at times if my maternal uncle did not talk to me in Harry’s voice over the phone and tell me that he’d visit me and teach me magic. Yes, I had a childhood crush on Harry.
Harry’s bravery, Hermione’s wit, and Ron’s presence of mind, combined with the splendid portrayal of friendship in the entire series penned by J.K. Rowling, are what draw me towards Harry Potter novels and movies the most.
To be honest, it was Rowling’s lucid style of writing that made me fall in love with English novels. The way she sketched all the characters in the story and outlined the twists and plots is beyond praise.
I find it hard to believe that Harry Potter and his adventures are at an end and that J.K. Rowling will not be writing about this series anymore. This is when I also realized that, along with the Harry Potter series, my childhood also came to an end.
Harry Potter and the memories associated with it will always be chiselled in my heart forever. Even if I am re-reading one of the books again, it feels like the very first time I finished the book—arousing the same joy, thrill, and passion.
