Ashneer Grover Points Out Problem As Blinkit Delivery Executives Go On Strike

There are a lot of delivery apps and companies these days and each one makes taller and taller claims to get deliveries to customers in record time. But at the same time, the way they treat their delivery executives is surely something to question on how ethical it is or how well they are compensated.

Blinkit has been under controversy for the past few days due to its new pay structure. Under this, the delivery app reduced fixed payouts per delivery from Rs 25 to Rs 15 which essentially means that instead of delivery partners getting Rs. 25 per delivery, they will only be earning Rs. 15 for each delivery.

Naturally, this angered a lot of delivery executives who have since been on strike and refusing to work until this new rule is taken back with even those from Delhi and Noida joining the protest.

What Did Ashneer Grover Say?

On April 16, 2023 Ashneer Grover tweeted out that “BlinkIt/Zepto – problem is not Rs 15 for delivery against Rs 50. Problem is 10-minute delivery has no economics — low ticket size and low margin can never be solved through forced low delivery cost. BlinkIt journey: 90 Min (bull run) —> Next day (bear run) —> 10 Min (bull run) —> ??”

Blinkit Delivery Executives

Grover it seems was putting the problem of these companies on their promise of a 10-minute delivery rather than how much compensation was being paid to the delivery agents.

As per replies and comments to the tweet, the company wasn’t able to achieve this anyway and customers had to wait a lot longer than 10 minutes not just for delivery but even for basic things like getting registered on the app.

According to reports around 2,500 Blinkit delivery executives have been on strike since sometime last week and even around 50 Blinkit stores have been closed down due to this.

In a mixed Hindi and English statement the app stated that “Dear Blinkit partner, We thank you for providing your services to customers from your store. You all have not been working at the store for the past 3-4 days, and work has not started despite a lot of talks.

That’s why the company is having to shut down this store forever,” and added that “Since this store is being shuttered permanently, we are disabling all of your IDs. For any issue, you can raise a ticket on support.”
