Adobe Flashplayer Is Gone But So Have A Lot Of Popular Online Games: A List

The game is (not) loading...

After 2020 drowned the world in shambles, 2021 was welcomed enthusiastically as a beacon of hope when things might finally become alright.

However, many young people who spent their childhood playing computer games online were left to grieve in a nostalgic sadness after Adobe Flash officially shut down on December 31st, 2020.

Adobe stated that it will “stop updating and distributing the Flash Player at the end of 2020.

Flash operated as a third-party plugin on which many creators have built their content on the browser. Hence, most games that are played online require the Flash Player to run.

Thus, the end of Flash also means the end of these games. Many websites would be removing these games from their sites unless they are eventually updated to work on alternatives.

Although some browsers continue to support majorly known games, as other organisations have been trying to preserve them, sites such as Armor Games or Kongregate may not work on most browsers.

Let us take a trip down memory lane to reminisce some of the games that we used to play when we were young (until they come back).

Papa’s And Sarah’s Cooking Games

Remember Papa’s chain of restaurants? There were many games under the Papa’s franchise such as Freezeria, Pizzeria, Scooperia, Cheeseria and more!

The last we checked on Chrome, it’s a Flash game and could not be played. Farewell, and hopefully we see you all soon.

Another cooking franchise game that we used to play was Sarah’s Cooking and even that one is gone!

Fancy Pants Adventure

This game with the spiky-haired cool stick dude skating on high and low planes is sadly unavailable as well. Fighting off large spiders was a refreshing way to face our fears of reality.

Dress Up Games

These games were a guilty pleasure for all. Trying on various outfits and channelling our inner diva was a great way of exercising free will and choices as a restricted little child.

While many will still be available, the ones on Flash game sites such as AGames are unavailable.

Farmville

Zynga Games announced that it would be discontinuing the game since Facebook has also stopped supporting Flash games. It was common to find people discussing this game and playing it with their friends on Facebook.

There is still no report on whether this game would be archived or saved.

Miniclip And Kongregate

Since listing the names of specific games won’t do justice to the sites we used to visit as a child to play random games that fell beneath our mouse’s cursor, here are the two major Flash game sites that now project the message “to play this game, you must have a current version of Adobe’s Flash Player enabled” for all of their old games.

Some of them include Swords and Souls, Black Knight, Canyon Defense, Flash Tennis, Bloons TD, ElectroMan, Diamond Mine and more.

Although games such as Fireboy and Watergirl have already been revived, there are still ways to play other old games if you’re patient enough to follow the internet’s sophisticated procedures and shortcuts.

One way is to access internet archives, and another is to access BlueMaxima’s Flashpoint software, a project that started in 2018 and has preserved around 80,000 games.

Until then, it’s only a sad adieu to our conventional games and gaming platforms.
