Watch: The Mysterious Temples Of India

India is a beautiful place full of diversity in so many spheres, including in religious faiths and beliefs. People here practice and profess Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Jainism, Zoroastrianism, and other indigenous religious faiths and beliefs.

Hence, it is a land of enthralling cultural diversity. Despite all these differences, we live together as one.

Even Hinduism, also called Sanātana Dharma, the most widely practised religion in India, has innumerable regional variations.

Hinduism is full of heterogeneity- many gods and goddesses and their incarnations are worshipped in this religious tradition. Also, there are many important religious texts like Vedas, Bhagavad Gita, Puranas and Upanishads in Hinduism.

Thus, there are innumerable temples in India dedicated to a number of gods and goddesses. Some of them can be dated back to previous centuries. These marvellous temples fascinate us with the skills and craftsmanship of people who built them.

According to many religious narrations, Lord Krishna had spent his life in Dwarka after killing Kansa. It is also one of the Sapta Puri (7 holy places) that one needs to visit to attain salvation.

For example, Brihadishwara Temple, built by Raja Raja Chola I in the 16th century incorporates the Hindu traditions of Shaivism, Vaishnavism, and Shaktism and its impressive vimana and shrines continue to captivate people visually even today.

Other temples have spectacular tales of victory of good over evil associated with them while others are preserved as abodes of deities.

Some of these temples arouse your curiosity because of their odd, unusual and out-of-the-box religious rituals and practices. For example, Kaal Bhairav temple in Varanasi is of great religious and cultural importance, especially for locals.
