Teenagers who smoke and drink at an early age are more likely to have heart problems, a study has found. It doesn’t cause any noticeable symptoms though.

Arterial stiffness is a symptom of damage done to the blood vessels. It can often predict problems later in life like angina, stroke, and heart attack.

The damage is greatest when smoking and drinking are done together, rather than separately.

The research was carried out by University College London, the University of Bristol, King’s College London, St Thomas’ Hospital London in the UK, and the Queen Silvia Children’s Hospital in Sweden.

In a research, it was found that more than 1000 participants had stiffened arteries by the age of 17. They found that the teens who didn’t smoke or drink had better hearts conditions.
