Forts are an important part of Indian culture. Not only do they showcase a glimpse in the time when India was the “golden bird”, but also remind us of the dynasties who ruled Indian provinces for thousands of years.
The forts, which are now open for the common public, used to be the military residences and the private residences of several kings and queens.
Their lavish homes guarded with tall walls were decorated with gold, silver and diamonds and plush carpets were spread to comfort their feet.
When independence knocked on the door of India, these kings and their kingdoms got abolished and what remained were the castles.
