Watch: Did You Know The East India Company Is Now Owned By An Indian?

Life Always Comes A Full Circle

Life always comes a full circle. Believe it or not, The East India Company which once ruled India is now owned by an Indian businessman, Sanjiv Mehta. Ironic, isn’t it?

The East India Company which was once a sign of oppression has now been transformed into a luxurious brand focused on beverages like premium quality tea and coffee, gourmet food, bullions and gift hampers.

As Sanjiv Mehta puts it,

The historic East India Company built itself on aggression, but today’s East India Company is about compassion.”

Purchasing the shares of the company meant an emotional closure for Mehta because, like every other Indian he was acquainted with the historical backdrop of the company’s exploitative trade policies and plundering of the Indian subcontinent.
