This COVID-19 Pandemic Has Created A New Line Of Business Of Designer Masks But Is It Sustainable?

Widespread coronavirus has dismantled the whole world with its deadly effects. It has shaken the physical, mental, and social state of humans. The race for finding the vaccine is still making headway.

In this battle, social distancing, face masks, and sanitizers are playing the part of our shields. We are dependent on them for our precious lives. The use of face masks has become indispensable. Now, they have become the necessity of our lives resulting in their demand to be inelastic (prices don’t matter to the public, they will buy it anyhow).

While coronavirus has decimated the lives of many, it has also benefitted a small percentage of people (mostly, manufacturers of face masks and sanitizers). People are not only buying face masks but also are towards buying branded face masks. It has now become a fashion and as a result, the brands are leaving no stones unturned to meet the demands of the people.

Masks: Fashion With Function

Initially, the masks were adopted to reduce the risk of coronavirus but today they have become a fashion accessory. Different brands are meeting the demand of various types of face masks that not only protect us from COVID-19 but also match our outfit.

However, when they were short in supply, we were asked to wear handmade masks (as a mask is better than no mask). But when people accepted face masks as a new trend, the grappling fashion businesses found an alternative stream of revenue.

Vogue has published online a list of 92 designer face masks to buy amidst coronavirus.

Brands like Louis Vuitton and Gucci wasted no time and expanded their empire in sales of designer face masks also. According to a report by Hindustan Times, “World Art Community, a forum where artists and designers showcase their work for direct purchase is helping local artisans in such challenging times.”

Not only are these masks fashionable but they also assure the optimum quality of protection and their reusable nature makes them sustainable. Most of the masks come with medically advised three-layer filtration systems. While fighting with the virus we don’t have to compromise with our style.

Have You Heard Of A Trikini

Masks have already become an inseparable part of our lives. We need them when we go for shopping, leave for the office, or even go for a walk. But what if we have to hit a beach?

Scaramuzzo, an Italian designer came up with the idea of Trikini, a bikini with a mask to be fashionable at a beach. This idea was soon turned into a real trend. People from different countries started buying and Scaramuzzo was flooded with orders.

A trikini came up as the most interesting and fun revolution of masks.

Contrasting Masks In Different Countries

Various countries are manufacturing designer masks in their own style. Some prefer floral prints while others prefer patterns. In Beijing, a designer named Zhou Li is making masks with silk embroidered orchids and camellias.

China is selling designer masks for 16 dollars each.

Givenchy, a luxury French brand, is selling masks and cap combo for 425 dollars.

Several brands worldwide are selling tops with matching masks. Our country is manufacturing and selling masks matching traditional outfits. Ancient textiles like Kalamkari, Ikat, Jamdani, Sangneri, etc. are meeting the supply of designer masks in India.

Indian brands too are turning their businesses to the production of face masks. Voylla is selling designer face masks with Sangneri prints. Madura Fashion and Lifestyle are making masks that reflect the aesthetic choices of the buyer and Peter England is creating masks for different moods and occasions. Fab Alley is manufacturing masks with soft elastic earloops that are comfortable to wear for long hours. These masks combine fashion with function in a funky and stylish way.

State Of Designer Masks In India

Designer masks in India are ready for consumption not only in the domestic market but in the international market too.

In India we have a wide variety of designer masks ranging from Rs. 20 to Rs. 15,000.

According to The Times of India, the Chairman of Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) said, “Around 500-600 apparel houses are currently manufacturing designer masks and many more are likely to start production soon. Eventually, the designer masks are replacing the regular ones, particularly in western countries. Once the restriction on export of masks is lifted, we expect huge orders from international markets”.
