The Surfacing Rift Between Liam Payne And Harry Styles

It is no hidden fact that the music Harry Styles is producing is in stark contrast to that composed by his former boy-band One Direction.

Ever since the band went on hiatus in January 2016, there have been a great deal of interviews surfacing regarding each member’s opinion of the other.

What I have noticed is that there seems to be a rift building up between Liam Payne and Harry Styles.

The Loss In Contact

After the members of One Direction (Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson) took to performing solo gigs, we saw Louis attending Liam’s concert and vice-versa, Niall attending Liam’s; what we didn’t see is Harry attending the concert of any of his fellow band members.

In fact, Harry happened to accidentally meet Liam at the Capital’s 2019 Jingle Bell Ball.

Liam told CapitalFM, “We spoke about a number of things, we hadn’t seen each other in three years, literally hadn’t seen him once, we hadn’t spoken or anything.”

He adds, “So it was good to see him, he was pretty much the same boy that I left him. We spoke about kids and happiness and all sorts of stuff.”

The Rising Rift

Social media being my only source of keeping up with interviews and upcoming music, I rely on fans’ opinions and the rumours so spread.

What was surprising to hear is that Liam revealed at the Vodafone’s Big Top 40 that he would not trust Harry with babysitting his child, Bear Payne for he thinks his child would come out dressed in something that he (I) just wouldn’t understand.”

That right there is what the GenZ would like to call being ‘salty’.

As a fan, it is heartbreaking to conclude that there definitely was a conflict of interests before One Direction declared their hiatus.

He even went out to comment on Harry’s newfound, bold fashion sense, saying “I couldn’t put myself in that. I’d look f**king… It’d look weird.”

Why the comparison? In fact, I expected him to be supportive of Harry. Liam was known to be the mature member of One Direction, literally labelled ‘Daddy Directioner’. With that perception in mind, I expected him to say something like, ‘He is exploring himself and I am proud of that’.

“I mean, look at the stuff I put out and the stuff Harry puts out. Polar opposite. I’m like the antichrist version of what Harry is”, Liam also said.

Though Liam might have not aimed at dissing, it was perceived as one by many fans.

The Cherry On The Top

Harry recently performed at the Saturday Night Live (SNL), a TV series broadcasted on NBC (National Broadcasting Company).

While promoting his new album ‘Fine Line’, he also paid a tribute to the One Direction members.

A fan on Twitter wrote: “Okay but if the audience were full of directioners I would’ve at least heard one loud scream when @Harry_Styles said “wouldn’t it be crazy if they were here tho’’ and finally after @LiamPayne saying he hasn’t talked to Harry in ages Harry finally said he loved him.”

To this Liam replied, “This actually made me laugh out loud.”

A lot of the fans suggested this comment to be sarcastic too, to which Liam replied, “No it was funny nice to see him happy and comfortable doing something he hasn’t done before.”

As a fan, I don’t seem to be convinced and still stand firm on the idea that there is a lot of history that we don’t know of.

“I was actually genuinely looking at some pictures of him the other day, and I just thought I don’t know what more I’d say to him other than, ‘Hello’, and, ‘How are you?’.” – Liam Payne in an interview.

What do you think? Is there really a rift or are the fans just over analyzing the situation?
