Shut Your Mouth! Sonu Nigam Is 100% Correct

sonu nigam singing

In a series of tweets directed towards Azaan (Adhan), Sonu Nigam expressed his displeasure of being woken up every morning at the sound (read: noise) of Azaan from a nearby mosque.

He did not stop there. He even took the name of one who shall not be named and pointed out that there was no electricity in the times when Islam was discovered, so why suffer cacophony after Edison’s invention?

Being a healthy Twitter user, I knew that this non-issue issue would generate outrage, especially among the left wingers. But I’m glad he spoke on this. I’m glad that there’s more outrage on religious issues.

“Sonu Nigam said What every Indian wanted to say but could not.”

So let me elaborate more on this:

Yes, Sonu Nigam was right.

Sonu Nigam said what every Indian wanted to say but couldn’t.

He is correct in bringing out the stupendous practice among a religion. You lock your doors at night so that you can sleep peacefully. But noise doesn’t ring your doorbell before entering the room.

But but but but religion is superior to your sleep na?

Rubber-ducker, if I want to wake up at 5 AM I’ll set an alarm or tell my mom. I wouldn’t create a religious practice around it.

This is not a new problem. I have spent 2 decades of my life in North India and not even a day passes that I don’t listen to Azaan un-voluntarily. Despite having Hindu majority, my city, on average, has more mosques on a road than temples. Mosques which have mandatory low-quality loudspeakers.

Now I’m not a practicing Hindu (read: atheist), ergo, let me bash Hindu practices too to establish my secularism.

So to my neighbors who sometimes organize a 24 hour Ramayana at their home: Bro, you’re a loser. Lord Rama didn’t defeat Ravana for you to produce noise on his name.

My concept of religion might differ from others but in no way, can someone infringe my fundamental right to noise free environment in the name of religion.

Since the comparison game has already begun, let me share my two thoughts on it.

Loudspeakers on Hindu temples are a complete nuisance. It is a sham. But comparing it with Azaan is no good. I haven’t heard of a single temple where jagran is played 5 times a day, starting from 5 AM. And if there is some temple where it happens, it should be taken down, and so should the speakers at mosques.

My concept of religion might differ from others but in no way, can someone infringe my fundamental right to noise free environment in the name of religion.

Actually, they can and they are doing it.

Bottom line: stop ruining my sleep, peace, chain, dhan, azaadi in the name of religion you mofos.

Aur haan ek aur baat:
