Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Recalled Amidst Lethal Battery Defect

One of the major players of the smartphone market, Samsung, has always been worthy of faith. But the current ‘exploding battery’ nightmare of Samsung galaxy Note 7 has dealt them an enormous blow.

Samsung officially announced the exchange program for the smartphone on 1st September 2016 following several cases of overheating and exploding batteries.

DJ Koh, President of Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics stated, “Our number one priority is the safety of our customers. We are asking users to power down their Galaxy Note 7 and exchange them as soon as possible.”

Basically, if you have purchased a Note 7, return it to the retailer pronto and wait for the details around the exchange program. It’s good to see that Samsung are concerned about the safety of its customers.

Their directions are simple and direct. Do not use the smartphone with caution, power it down and stop using it altogether.

But in the business sense, the mass failure of the Note 7 will have lasting repercussions on Samsung. It was supposed to be a trademark phone for Samsung which would increase their sales for the festive period.

A phone which would be Samsung’s own answer to Apple’s Iphone 7 and Iphone 7 plus. Instead, nobody is going to remember how good a phone it was. They’re only going to remember the fact that Samsung phones can explode.

Talk about a huge hit to your prestige. From a brand that was arguably Apple’s biggest competitor to a brand which distributed defective phones.

I get it, Samsung must have carried out numerous tests in order to confirm its durability and credibility but it obviously passed them to reach a stage of worldwide distribution.

But the question I pose is that in an age where technology is at its peak, how is the team at Samsung not able to pick up defects in batteries?

Is their success to be blamed? Has success blinded them to the point of taking their own well-built business for granted?

Whatever the reason, their careless attitude will be the cause of their undoing. And with apple’s new Iphone 7 receiving mixed reviews from the audience, Samsung could have potentially swept this competition.

Alas, it wasn’t to be. Only time will show the after-effects of the storm. For now, the priority is the safety of each and every customer who got his hands on the Galaxy Note 7.
