PM Says COVID-19 Has Increased Family Bond And Closed The Generation Gap, How True Is It?

COVID-19 pandemic has taught us many lifelong lessons. This whole period has changed the course of our lives as it has affected everyone significantly.

On 7th April 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the students, parents and teachers through a virtual programme named “Pariksha Pe Charcha” and openly answered their queries and gave his suggestions. About 13 lakh registrations were made for the virtual meet with PM Narendra Modi.

During the session, a student from Ahmedabad asked the PM his perspective on the impact of COVID-19 on the students’ lives and how one should remember this year.

PM’s views about COVID-19

PM Modi answered the question by highlighting that the pandemic has brought a lot of difficulties in the students’ lives. He said that school is not just an institution to study but also a place to enjoy, learn and grow as an individual.

It is a place to interact with teachers, friends and make memories. He said that students had missed their precious school time due to the spread of the virus.

COVID-19 Has United Families: PM

On a positive note, PM Narendra Modi also highlighted that though COVID-19 time has made life difficult for the students, it has also played a crucial role in “uniting families and increasing emotional bond among family members.”

He emphasized that it has also tested the family’s ability to work together as one to fight the pandemic and has led to increased understanding within families.

He also marked this one year as necessary as it made all of us realize the importance of people around us and the significance of places like school, neighbourhood markets, office etc. It has taught us not to take anything for granted.

Has COVID-19 Closed the Generation Gap?

PM Modi talked about how COVID-19 has played an essential role in “closing the generation gap” within families. Parents got ample time to spend with children, strengthening the bond between the two generations.

PM Modi has rightly said that although COVID-19 imposed social distancing and the daily struggles of combating coronavirus, it has also promoted stronger family bonds and improved relationships between parents and children.

But, how far is this true?

COVID-19 has definitely acted as a strong force in connecting the young with the older generation. Still, it should not be forgotten that “the generation gap and lack of understanding” between parents and children is a significant problem in India.

The rising cases of mental health issues like depression during the pandemic show the miserable state of India’s youth.

The youth’s inability to share their problems due to the conservative attitude of the adults is still valid in every Indian household.

Thus, one can conclude that COVID-19 has allowed children to connect with their parents, but it has not entirely opened the doors of friendship.
